Today we talk to Sarah Farrell, Marketing Manager at Hotel Verde who is South Africa’s greenest hotel and the first hotel in Africa to offer carbon-neutral accommodation and conferencing.
Sarah has an intensive understanding and passion for sustainability and culture. She is currently developing unique sustainable brand management concepts and strategies geared toward fighting greenwashing. It is Sarah’s belief that sustainability should form the basis of brand development and that all Hotel marketers should be involved in sustainable practice within operations.
“It is not only my job to know what each and every sustainable element of the property is and use it in my marketing, but it is also my duty to ensure we are carrying our brand message of being sustainable through every product and practice.”
Hotel Verde is also the first hotel in Africa to achieve the Platinum LEED certification level, as assigned by the United States Green Building Council. They are the winners of the Imvelo Award 2014 by Lilizela for Best Overall Environmental Management System and also won the World Responsible Tourism Award 2014 by World Travel Market, London for Best City Hotel.
