The hotels use hydroelectricity for power. Energy is conserved by not having air-conditioning or fans as all buildings use natural circulation, there are no TV’s in guest rooms, no dishwasher, all cooking is done using gas and building use natural lighting during the day from windows and skylights. Low wattage fluorescent bulbs are being phased out with LED lights.
All water is sourced from the river and spring and is recycled back to nature via vegetated waste water gardens, low water pressure showers and dual flush toilets. Each toilet and shower has it’s own septic system and waste water garden.
Bali Eco Stay utilises waste segregation and works with a nearby rubbish tip where locals make a living from selling recyclables. All organic food waste is composted and used in the permaculture garden.
Programs are financed in nearby schools to educate the next generation on recycling and environmental awareness through movies and lectures. This helps provide a future for the young people with all staff sourced from the local villages and trained in hospitality and eco practices.
All laundry and kitchen detergent, guest shampoo and soap are biodegradable. The use of bottled water is minimised by offering unlimited spring water to all guests and providing natural spring water dispensers in all rooms. Only stainless steel and glass cooking utensils are used in the kitchen.
No MSG, margarine or refined oils are used in cooking and the hotel supplies much of their vegetables for the restaurant from their permaculture garden. Alternatively, other products are sourced locally where possible to minimise packaging and emissions from transport. Other items are purchased in bulk to minimise packaging.

Buildings are in keeping with the local environment and culture and were carefully sited in harmony with the natural contours of the land with no loss of rice paddies and minimal removal of existing farming vegetation. Local craftsmen used predominantly traditional building techniques using local timbers and materials harvested from the property where possible e.g. bamboo & coconut timber. Minimal trees were removed during construction of the resort.
