Social ImpaKt, founded in 2014 by Jeroen van Overbeek, a former Corporate Executive who gave his life a complete turnaround in 2013, re-centering it around his humanist values, is a social enterprise whose mission is to bring simple, eco-friendly life-changing and -enhancing technologies like water filters to remote areas (‘the last mile’) and urban centres in Bali and East Indonesia.
Social ImpaKt also aims at creating micro-business opportunities with these technologies. To improve access to clean water Social Impakt promotes the Nazava Water Filter, an affordable low-cost solution to produce the much needed high-quality drinkable water. Social Impact has already positively impacted more than 17 000 lives with improved access to clean water. The filter reduces the use of plastic bottles which are littered around in Indonesia, reduces CO2 emissions and deforestation: gas and wood are used to boil water in the villages to make it drinkable. With their action, they have already saved 9,000 tonnes of Co2 equivalent emissions over the last three and a half years.
The Filter Candle used by Nazava® consists of ceramic that is impregnated with silver and has a core of activated carbon. With its pores smaller than 0.4 microns it stops micro-organisms, bacteria, cyst, parasites, fungi and other particles in the water. The activated carbon reduces chemicals such as pesticides and chlorine, reducing odour and improving taste. Moreover, minerals are only partially filtered out by the ceramic candle, offering a much healthier alternative to commercially branded water gallons. “
